I do not think it so good for the plant it self to peel all those leafs of, but it is probely for the human eye.
And it is not even so easy as it looks like, the leafs got a very very sharp end which can pick your eyes out (haha, the same who are eager to see conditional beauty) and the sides of the leafs are scharp aswell, you also need pretty much power to pull them. There are a lot of them here so....
